Behind The Scenes : Imagine That
‘Imagine That’ This was my first art experience I’ve done since 2019. Like most of us 2020 sat me down and forced me to sit with myself. Focus on me, my needs, my wants, my mind. I specifically found myself being consumed in the media, it was tearing me up. Seeing daily what was happening in the black community was draining. It made me wonder, what if things were reversed, what if we lived in a world where minorities grew up like the majority and vice versa? Would we act the same? Would they feel the same? Who knows.
So in a nut shell this collection was about more than racial issues, it’s about the media and how it effects us. What it does to our self esteem, how it makes people view one another. If we all grew up with the idea that Jesus Christ was a black woman how much of a cultural, economic, and mental shift would there be? Imagine that.
So my art shows are dinners, not the typical art gallery set up. I find that in our day of age people like to look at pretty images but what gets viewers attached to the art work is the meaning behind them. My art shows are intimate, they’re set up so viewers can get an insight on my process, my thoughts, and the underlying meanings beneath the surface of my work. A full art experience. If you came to this art experience you would’ve heard my full vision for this show, what we just did is a small scale. I plan to bring the full experience on in the near future and if you missed this one I hope you’re in attendance for the next.
In the meantime if you’re here you’re either on my mailing list or just came across my page. Either way I’m going to drop some behind the scenes work of the collection for you along with the recap video of the event. If you read through this thank you for your time, stay kind, stay with an open mind and imagine that, whatever it may be.
